Title: Help a n00b with some basic things
Post by: edifonzo on February 18, 2009, 09:37:43 AM
Hi All,

I have tries to search for a solution to my upnp problem but I keep getting solutions that I do not fully understand.

What is going on:
I have a new dns-323 and have flashed the current FW.
I have formatted 2x1tb HD in RAID 1.
Activated UPNP and set to root
Loaded 173 GB avi movies that I know will stream/play on the 360.
My folder structure on the DNS-323 looks like this:

Folders with media in them:
/videos/movies
/videos/television
/music/#artistname
/pictures/#datetaken

Folders without media in them:
/favorites
/contacts

What I see on the xbox360.
under videos blade I choose the dns-323 and see two folders: "Videos_All" and "Folders". When I open both of these folders I see "no videos found".
One solution that I have found on this forum is to "refresh the UPNP". I am not sure how to do this.

So my questions are:

How to refresh UPNP?
Can this be done automatically?
I do not really like seeing both "Videos_All" and "Folders" in the blades on the xbox360, how can I structure the folders on the NAS to see only one? (perhaps putting the music/videos/pictures in a "media" folder and seting the UPNP to index that?)

Any ideas on the best way to organize the folders on the NAS?

Thanks again everyone.

Start with it simple just try selecting a folder containing your Videos in the UPnP AV media server not the Root thats alot of work to index in most cases. See if this works first make sure they playback properly adn are a supported media type.

In the UPnP AV Media server settings there is a button to Refresh. What firmware version are you running? 1.01?

As for organizing the folders there aren't any options to change how it is viewed you can basically view it by folder or by all video, photos, or music. I would just create a folder for your Playable Media then have a folder for music, images, and videos. the more basic folder structure the less likely to run into issues indexing.
