I am sure this has been covered but after searching I am back to asking for help.
Setting up a home network for someone who does not know any of the settings for the router, "someone" set it up for her. A laptop running Vista was accessing the network, a cable modem is used.
I added a Windows-7 desktop, no problem. Connected an HP printer to desktop, no problem. Tried to connect HP printer which has a wireless function to wireless network, no-go, cannot find the security key to configure the printer.
Tried to access the router with 192.168.0.1, admin screen shows, user does not know anything about password, tried default username, Admin with blank password, no-go.
Reset router, it is broadcasting SSID "D-Link" with security enabled, this does not seem correct, where did it get security settings after being reset?
Tried to access router using 192.168.0.1, admin screen does not load. Tried to run setup CD, utility returns error saying it is the wrong CD.
Any suggeastions please?

Probably need to factory reset the router to gain access to the routers web page. Use the back button
After reset:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz radio. If there are no 5Ghz devices, turn off the 5ghz radio. Or if there is 5Ghz supporting devices, use single mode N.
Preferred is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
After all is setup, reset the admin log in PW to something she or you wil remember, write it down.

Thanks for the reply Furry but that is exactly what I did, a hard reset usuing the hard rest on the rear of the router. Still cannot access the utility and the setup Cd gives an error saying it is the wrong CD for this router. What to do now?

What browser are you using? Try a different browser? Opera?
Open a command line window and PING 192.168.0.1? What are the results?

I tried this on two different computers, one Windows-7 IE-9, the other with XP IE-8 with not results. I think I will try another hard reset and try again.

Try changing to Compatibility mode for IE8 and 9.
