Title: Cannot copy folder contents from Mac to NAS
Post by: PeterV on December 03, 2011, 10:06:15 AM
I purchased my DNS 320 a few months ago, and for the most part I am pleased with it.  It was a breeze to set up.  I have several PCs running Win7x64, and one still running XP.  I also have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard.
I am still fairly new to the Mac environment.  And the one issue I have found is that I cannot copy folders to the NAS.  On the Mac, under Network, I see both servers of the NAS: both the PC server and the Mac server, and have tried to access both sides.  I can copy from the NAS to the Mac.  I can copy files from the Mac to the NAS.  But when I try to copy a folder from the Mac to the NAS, it copies the folder, but not any of its contents or subfolders.

I enabled AFP in the DLink setup software.  Do I need to enable any other permissions?
I did a Google search for this issue, and saw some folks on a QNap forum experiencing the same problem on QNap NAS devices.  The solution was to upgrade the firmware of the NAS.

Has anybody else experienced this same issue?  Is there a fix?

THank you,
Peter

I am having the same problem and have been trying to figure out the problems for days (no joke). I have tried a dozen tests with no luck, still got a few more things to try. I am starting to wonder if this simply cannot be fixed because the server is Linux based and it has its own type of permission deal that it may not be compatible with Mac.... Will post my findings later.

Mine had the same issue as well - until I upgraded to 2.02.

Now I can copy folders.

Be careful though if you havent upgraded yet, you cant roll back if needed.

I think the key is to connect to the drive via afp://192.168.x.x in the Connect to Server window instead of through the Finder window. Also, it's better to give the NAS a static IP instead of dynamic.

Recently bought this unit also to use with both Macs and PCs. I can confirm (even with the official 2.0.2 FW release) that this problem still exists when accessing the shares via CIF/SMB. Files can be copied correctly from a Mac, but not nested folders/files. Mounting via AFP and copying files/folders DOES work.

The box correctly broadcasts the NetBIOS name of the unit (thus making it available in "Browse" on the Mac over SMB/CIF) but doesn't do the same over AFP (requiring the cryptic afp://IP address syntax).

VERY POORLY implemented and a serious flaw.

Will be returning POS if I don't brick it first.
