Title: DWA-552 & XP sp3 non-connection
Post by: desalvo55 on February 22, 2009, 08:33:43 PM
I cannot believe this wireless adapter wouldn't connect to Windows XP pro SP3. I called tech support and they told me in fact in won't, I would need a different model adapter.

I this true?

I have the D-link 655 router and thought it would be a no brainer. Can someone clarify this? Maybe the beta drivers?

Thanks, pretty frustrated..

Just tried the DWA-552 on Windows 7. No go on W7 too. Funny, just now I watched my W7 power off all by itself! It's been bulletproof until now.  :-\

I have two of these working fine with XP SP3.  Using whatever the latest drivers are from the download site.  Don't install using the setup routine (D-LInk Connection Manager) included with the drivers.  If you have the connection manager installed, uninstall it through the Add/Remove Programs.  Install the drivers by using the device manager to update the driver and point it to the folder that has hte actual driver file, then let Windows manage the wireless connection.

Hi davevt31,

I fully agree with you. The D-Link Connection Manager causes nothing but grief. I am dual-booting between Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 and Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit Beta Version with only the drivers installed. Windows or Network Magic's Wireless Network Manager is managing the Adapter.

The d-link connection manager doesn't if you are using the fast user switching as it turn that feature off when you install the dlink manager.  Tech support said you could turn that feature back on, never tried since dlink turned it off for a reason.  The second problem you will run into with using the d-link connection manager is that it only connects wireless when the user logs into his account, this is not good if you are trying to remote desktop to that computer.

I ended up removing dlink connection manager and using the windows wireless management and only installing the driver, as what was done in the above.
