I have recently inherited a DFL-1600 that I have found it EOL. I'm looking to get a complete configuration from the device that I can review and translate to a new machine. I have tried the backup utility, but it appears to be partially obfuscated. I am able to read from <SecurityGateway> to </SecurityGateway> but the majority of the file is unreadable. What is the unreadable part? Is it part of the config?
What is the difference in the files 'config-20111213.bak' vs. 'full-20111213.bak'?
Ultimately, does the config-xxxxxxx.bak file provide me with all the information I need to transition to a new device?

full is the full system backup, that includes both the config and the firmware.
config is just the config, and this is the file you want.
If you open it in a text editor you should see that rules, ipsec, routes etc is there.
If the other device you have is also a DFL-1600 then there is no problem with just uploading the config to that one and save & activate.
