After I replaced routers...
Before old router as netgear, It was fine for sharing files, printer....
After replaced, I would not able to connect network to other computers for sharing file and printer... I checked the ping, it passed. I have the dir-655 with original firmware 1.10. Other computer would not see other puters in mshome of the MS Window Network folder.
Could you help me to find the problem to fix the sharing files and printer? My kids are bugging on me for printer!!!
Thanks for taking your time.

Well. you are going to have to provide more significant details first about your network. HOWEVER. we can save all the troubleshooting between all Operating systems, Network Protocol, Firewalls, workgroup names, sharing, and router configuration, if you upgrade to the latest d-link firmware, download the shareport software, plug your printer into the usb port of the router (hoping your printer has a usb connection) and install the shareport clients on all computers. It makes life a lot less complicated.
Otherwise.
Each compututer must have a unique name.
Each computer *should* be within the same workgroup.
All firewalls (for the time being) should be disabled. Don't worry, the router is protecting you. If still concerned disconnect the WAN cord on the router.
For any wireless computers, you will have to make sure that in the router, Advanced> Advanced Wireless> that the WLAN Partition does NOT have a checkmark in it. You may want to have WINS enabled in the router as well. (no need to learn from WAN, that's a bad idea)
Now, after the router has done all its' reboots (reminds me of winxp after every configuration change), I want you to open cmd on every computer. On the first computer, ping first the IP adress of all other computers. Then repeat the steps with all other computers. Then I want you to ping the computer names of all computers from every computer. Then you need to make sure that on every computer you can browse the network and see all computers.
Then, on every computer, you need to make sure that in services.msc that print spooler is enabled.
Then on the main computer hosting the printer, you need to make sure that in the printer properties, that sharing is enabled for that printer.
Then on every computer, you need to "add" a printer. go through the wizard, select network printer, and then browse the network for the printer, you will need the drivers for every computer. Then if successful, open up notepad on every computer and just type, "test" and then print. And see if every printer can print. to save the tree's, use the same page over again, flipping and rotating it after each print, just so you can verify every computer is printing the workd "test". :)
that is your steps in a nutshell. LIke I said, it can get very detailed especially with the troubleshooting.
which is why I suggested shareport first. :)

what antivirus software are you using?
-
I will work on that later this week or this weekend. I am too busy...
My anti virus is avast.
-
Try turning AV off...
-
Hard wired computers's OS is XP Pro
Wireless laptop OS is Vista Ulimate.
Firewalls are disable
All anti virus are disable (turned off)
Latest firmware (beta version 1.21B11)
installed shareport software and worked very well.
I did set up on each puters name and I already have same work group on each puters.
I used the testing on cmd for ping each local ip addresses (lan). ALL passed.
Could not able to share the files from other puters!!! But printer is working well.
In workgroup, I clicked other computer, I got messsage "XXXXX is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. COntact the admin of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found.
Cable Modem is connected to Dlink DIR-655
Dlink DIR-655 is connected to Main computer and Dlink DSS-8+ Hubs Network.
Dlink DIR-655 is wireless to laptop and Wii.
Hubs networks is connected to 2 Videophones and Other kids computer.
I need to share the files thru other puters! I need that badly!
How can you help for sharing files?? Thanks

Ok, This computer can read network but other 2 computers can't read networks. For example
First, Puter A turned on power, then other 2 turned on power.
Puter A can see Puter B and C
Puter B can't read (see) but can see Puter B as itself
Puter C can't read (see) but can see Puter C as itself
Isn't that strange? Above post would help me to solve problem?

I used CMD on Puter B and Puter B can't read Puter A network but I used CMD on Puter A that read Puter B network!

If I remember my Network stuff right, when using switches Windows will remember the route it took to get to another machien on the network. When you went to a new switch it changed the path a little because the ports are unique. You could try doing a diagnose and repair on the network connection and theat should clear everything out and redo your network map.

Computer A is XP pro right? Computer B and C cannot see computer A. But can see each other That means computer A is blocking connections. Review your security settings.
For folder sharing where its saying no access. You are going to have to review your sharing permissions on those computers. Would help you with the instructions but it is not very convienient typing on my blackberry. Best bet would be to seek google for advice on folder sharing. The computer might be in advance sharing mode.

Yes Computer A is XP pro. Computer B (xp pro) and C (vista ulimate) cannot see computer A. But can see each other That means computer A is blocking connections. Review your security settings.
But I tested the ping on cmd. they passed.

correct, so ICMP is being let through. File/folder sharing uses more than ICMP. have you tried puting in the addressbar:
//computerA//<resource> ? or even just //computerA ? Still it stems down to your settings and would recommend posting your problem in your computer manufacturers help forums, or a Windows related forum.

I think this classifies as a classic Windows issue...
You might want to clear the DNS cache and routing/arp cache on your 'puters'
