I haven't even tried the Shareport feature of my DIR-655 yet because I can't find a single thread that reports it working flawlessly!
What is DLink's official word on using USB devices with Shareport? I read somewhere that they're "still working on it". I happen to have Rev 2 of this router; maybe it's better on that?
I've read a few posts that mentions things working and then not; one thing I do suspect is that using a powered hub to connect any device to the router is probably a good idea since it's unlikely the router can provide a lot of power on this connection. Unprotected, current overdraw could in theory damage it too.
Anyway, any insight on the subject would be welcome. Thanks.

I have tried different versions firmware for my A4. Finally I settled with 1.34RU version over 1.31EU for the better VoIP phone connection. I connected my Buffalo USB netdrive without problem. There is only a little bit lag for extra large video files otherwise, it works find. YAY!

One drawback is that you have to install shareport on each PC that you want to have connect to the device on the USB port on the router.

For hardware revision B1 there is a beta firmware that's supposed to fix issues with shareport. You can contact dlink support and ask for it.
EDIT: I meant hardware revision.

SharePort is a real hit or miss thing.... I had it working for a while in the past, then when I upgraded my pc's to Win7 & Win7 x64, Shareport would work then it would go whacko printing out half ages of gibberish or photo's in psy*****lic colors....
I worked with DLink here in the forums,... finally I went with a little USB print server cause I didn't need to lose any more hair.... only hassle, is that the print server is one-way only, shareport is bi-directional,...

Hi, shareport has been a very frustrating experience. I tried a printer which kept going off-line. I tried an external drive to run back-ups which kept going on and off line for no reasons. And finally a USB flashdrive and still was unreliable.
So I would say nay.
