Title: having problems connecting dir 655 to dtv dvr
Post by: cowboy620 on February 28, 2009, 11:29:07 PM
Hello everyone,
First time user needs help. I am trying to connect a direct-TV dvr to my dir 655, I used the port forwarding and entered the ports to open, which is 80,8080. Then, I entered the ip address. When I connect to the dvr, the dvr is supposed to automatically add the following: ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, and dns. It did not.
I have to manually add this information: however, it still would not connect when I ran the test. The test showed the stb has an error (error 301) for the stb port. The stb port and audioport are showing n/a. If I change it to manual, I can add it, but I don't know what the ports are supposed to be. It just will not connect to the internet. Now, if I connect my laptop to the ethernet wire going to the dvr, it connects fine. Can anyone help?

I'm going to pull an "EddieZ" and comment on typographical skills.   ;D

Using a period from time to time and the occasional question mark is healthy.  My eyes hurt from reading the post.

go to router. on back of router, put the ethernet plug into port #1. this is the gaming port. now go to  E under the address bar type 192.168.0.1 . go in to router, go to port forwarding, under name, name device. then under ip address type an address of 100 - 199 , just make sure your not using the same ip address as your pc. now under ports to open type 80,8080,27177,27178. at top of page hit save , it will ask to reboot now. hit reboot now . when done close E. now go to dvr go to networks , then go to network services, change automatic to manual, hit connect now, when done go to advanced setup. for the ip address type the same one used under port forwarding, subnet is 255.255.255.0, default gateway is 192.168.0.1, dns 71.243.0.12, hit connect now. you should get congratulations you are now connected to directv. you have to manually connect with the dlink, it will not add these figures automatically. good luck!
