I have a quad-core clone computer with two Sapphire Radeon 4850 video cards in it, 4 monitors, 3 GB of Ram, 32 bit Vista, an Asus motherboard hardwired to the router at 1 Gb using the Marvel onboard lan. The router would drop out at least once per hour and sometimes as often as every five minutes. The lan drivers were the latest. Current router firmware is the latest beta, but I tried versions back to 1.11 without any good results.
After 3-4 weeks of frustration, I tracked my problem down to having installed the latest ATI 9.2 Radeon drivers in it about a month ago. Rolling back to 9.1 fixed the problem. It's rock solid now.
I really cannot figure out why this was happening, but perhaps it was messing up the bus and vista was dropping the connection to the router in some unusual fashion.
Anyway, just posting this in case it helps someone else.

PS - I should have added that my internet connection is via a local wireless isp at 3 mbps. Signal is strong though.
