Title: Apple TV cannot access DLink DNS-321
Post by: Darryl_Gittins on December 26, 2011, 01:32:11 PM
Hi folks,

I bought an Apple TV, and hoped I could access content from my DLink DNS-321 (firmware 1.03).

I've enabled iTunes Server on the DLink DNS-321, and specified a folder, but the Apple TV does not see the DLink DNS-321 in the list of "Computers". the Apple TV does see the two PC computers that I have running iTunes, and it can access music, photos of video from those two PC computers, however, I cannot access anything on the on the DLink DNS-321.

I don't see a lot of configurable options here, so I'm sort of stumped. I've read that other people have this working, and had no trouble with it.

Thank you for reading this!

What type and model number of router do you have?

Are you trying to get to the NAS directly from AppleTV, or are you going through a computer that is running iTunes?

I don't have this setup, but I have friends who do.  I'm believe that AppleTV will only talk to iTunes running on a Mac or PC...the iTunes server on the NAS won't cut it.  This has something to do with Apple's DRM, I believe.

So what you'd need to do is get iTunes to index the content you have on your NAS (which begs the question of why you need the iTunes server running in the first place). And then AppleTV will see it, as long as the iTunes PC is running.  (Which defeats the purpose of the NAS, I know.  It's why I don't buy Apple products.)
