Title: Problem with local backup and Snow Leopard
Post by: zakkos on December 27, 2011, 11:16:14 AM
Good evening everyone, first of all sorry for my English. It is an online translation.
I can not set up local backup with operating system OSX Snow Leopard. In particular, does not accept the URL field.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

First of all: this doesn't look like a normal URL at all. In Windows one uses such paths with backslashes and a double-backslash prepends the machine name you want to connect to. You would need to share your home folder first and then enter that as a URL.
For a valid URL you need to enter there, I would consult page 91 of the manual:
ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/Diagrams/Misc/DNS-325_A1_Manual_v1.00(W).pdf
However, under OS X Snow Leopard, I would use Time Machine for local backups (see page 92 of the same manual).

Thanks for the reply priitv8.
In the manual it says that you can also put a ftp path, but does not work the same, indeed, tells me that the url is wrong. (see image below).
I use Time Machine with Time Capsule.
I want to use this backup as a second copy.

Pag91 of the manual: http://f.cl.ly/items/3J2C1h1I2x0n3O0p1217/pag91.jpg (http://f.cl.ly/items/3J2C1h1I2x0n3O0p1217/pag91.jpg)

... and my error: http://f.cl.ly/items/1X1F311K2B1w3c342x0s/error.jpg (http://f.cl.ly/items/1X1F311K2B1w3c342x0s/error.jpg)

My Bad!  :-[
As it turns out, the URL indeed needs to be in Samba format, to be accepted at all!
You might check the function that validates this in
http://yourNAS.local./web/function/localbackup.js
Which means, you need to enable SMB File sharing on your Mac.
However, I still fail it to sign in and validate the source folder:

Maybe the path to my shared folder shall look different. I really haven't found any compelling reasons to play with SMB so far ;)

I tried everything. Set sharing documents both FTP and SMB AFP ... I can only copy them manually  >:( ... I hope to be resolved with future firmware !!
Thanks priitv8 and if you find a solution let me whistle   :D
