Title: Advanced Format drives with latest firmware?
Post by: tatemdm on December 28, 2011, 08:33:26 AM
I have been reading quite a bit about the advanced format drive issue but still don't see a definitive answer. Can the DNS-320 support the advanced format drives with the latest firmware? The website says it can't and there are no plans to support them. But the firmware release notes say it supports 3tb drives - does that mean advanced format? As you all know most drives are using the new format - I can't find any 2tb drives that aren't the advanced format.
Thank you to anyone who has the straight answer.

All 3TB HDDs are advanced format. The latest DNS-320 firmware supports 3TB HDDs.

This great news! So the online documentation is just out of date? It still says advanced format is not supported. Is it supported in 2.0 or just 2.02?

Are there issues with using 1 advanced format and 1 older drive in standard mode? I have read that was an issue but am hoping I can reuse and existing drive plus the new one. I will not be setting up RAID.
thanks for your help.

Please see this thread for the cumulative firmware updates. I believe 3TB support was added for firmware version 2.01 and later: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42483.msg149905#msg149905 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42483.msg149905#msg149905)

Additionally, you should read through this board to see which brands/model HDDs users have successfully used/tested.
