Just upgrade from an old DIR-524 (or something like that) to a DIR-655. Set up was easy all is working good with the computers. |However, I plugged my HP Photosmart C5100 printer into the router (first slot). The computer seems to know it is there, and the printer seems to recognize the router, but it will not printer. Microsoft diagnostics says that the printer is not ON, and the printer is listed on Devices as Offline. The printer is about 5 years old, but it is a trooper and I don't want to to get rid of it. I know I must be missing some setting somewhere. Help.
Thanks,

Have you tried directly connecting the printer to the pc via USB to make sure that the printer is properly functioning? Also, did you make sure that it has the same IP address as it had the the old router?

The printer was working fine up to the router change. This printer has a little display screen that you can look at network connectivity and print test pages and the like. It works fine. According to the printer, the IP address is the same as before.
Any other suggestions?

Some printers are fussy, you may have to delete the printer and add it back again after a network (router) change. Make sure you power cycle the printer or check on the router that it is actually getting the right IP address.

thanks for the tip. I had to re-load the printer on an XP laptop (wasn't easy to find) since the HP C5100 only had a driver disk for XP and lower. It did not want to work for Windows 7. Took a while to re-install. Then deleted the printer from the other computers and then added them back.
Viola..... i can use the printer.
Thanks. It was simple but sometimes you need the simple things explained to you again. We are all products of plug n' play.

Just FYI, HP does have windows 7 drivers for that model printer.
Enjoy.

yes it does, but the installation disk that came with the printer to re-install it was only upto XP.

The printer has to use the same network with the computer. You can go to the HP web site to download the new Win 7 driver for your printer.
