Title: Clever Idea.
Post by: nycx7 on March 04, 2009, 03:42:00 PM
I was thinking during the next update why not incorperate built in navigation complete with path input for a NAS that way there is direct link connection over the existing LAN or WAN.

If this is to technical I will put it this way
why dont we get the ability to navigate to a constant over the network storage solution AKA NAS(Network Attached Storage Device) and have the dsm browse the contents of folders premade on the NAS this way you can at anytime load your favorite movies withought using the pc.

I still dont use my unit with the media center I dont see the point of it for that I couldve purchased a UMPC and play the videos directly on the tv.

@nycx7

you don't need a pc. if i understand you correctly what you really want is a NAS that has a UPnP or DLNA media server built-in. The are several NAS's on the market that will allow you do what you want. DLink even sells a couple.

Yes.. I am using D-Link's G600 with a 750 without the PC running. Same navigation as with a media server. The only issue that I have is that .mkv do not appear in the directory displays. Hopefully, D-Link will provide a firmware update to pass these through.

The DNS-321,321, and 343 support this function using the built in UPnP AV media server.
