Title: DNS-325 - Firmware Version 1.02 - Add-on - Install failed. Please check file.
Post by: mark1900 on January 11, 2012, 05:29:59 PM

I recently upgrade my firmware on my DNS-325 to 1.02.

1)  I downloaded the AjaXplorer from "ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns325/Apps/dns325_AjaXplorer_100.zip" as linked to via http://www.dlink.ca/products/?pid=816 (http://www.dlink.ca/products/?pid=816) or http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DNS-325&tab=3.addition (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DNS-325&tab=3.addition) .

2)  From downloaded file "dns325_AjaXplorer_100.zip", I extracted the file inside: "dns325_AjaXplorer_100".
3)  Log into DNS-325
4)  ShareCenter -> Management -> Add Ons -> Browse -> .... dns325_AjaXplorer_100
5)  Receive error "Install failed. Please check file."

Any ideas as to how to address this issue?

There is another thread that caught my attention http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=45004.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=45004.0) that suggested downloaded that suggests downloading from a different site:  ftp://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/NAS/DNS-325/Add-on/2.00/ .  Is this supported?  Or is this use at own risk?

Where D-Link Taiwan Site Downloads -> http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/ (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/) allows you to search for updates and provides the link to the new ajax explorer:  http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/temp/PMD/8414/DNS-325_A1_ajaxplorer%20Package%20v2.00.zip (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/temp/PMD/8414/DNS-325_A1_ajaxplorer%20Package%20v2.00.zip).

Is this supported?  Am I supposed to wait till this file reaches my region Canada?

The site you mention is specifically for Russia. You should not install software from that site unless you purchased your hardware from that region. To answer your question, if you install software designed for another region (and potentially different hardware), then "yes", you do so at your own risk.

Software or add-ons located on the D-Link Taiwan that do not contain the label "WW" (i.e. worldwide), will not necessarily work with hardware from other regions. You should also be mindful of the hardware version the software is designed for. If, for example, the software contains the hardware version"A1" in the file name or release notes, then your DNS-325 must also be "A1". You can find the hardware version as a string (e.g. "A1") on the serial number sticker attached to your DNS-325.

Am I supposed to wait till this file reaches my region Canada?

All DNS-325 firmware and add-on download links on the official D-Link Canada website point to the U.S. FTP site.

I am also having this problem, and I have the v1.02 firmware.  NONE of the addons will install.  I get the "Install failed. Please check file." error with all of them.

Does anyone know how to fix this or how to properly install the add-ons since the obvious method of installing through the ShareCenter software doesn't work?

This error also happens with the beta versions of the files I downloaded off the US FTP site.

Please help!!

I am having the exact same problem as Chris_M.

I will also add that none of the add-ons install correctly as I go through the installation process using the "start here" disk.  During this process, when it reaches the "enable" screen after the add-ons are supposedly installed, I receive a pop-up box simply showing the number "2".  After installation completes, no icons for the add-ons appear on the web GUI...so clearly the add-on installations failed using this method as well.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, and am attempting to upgrade from the D-Link 323 (bringing one 1TB Seagate drive from the 323 into the 325 with a new 1TB Seagate drive, set up in "standard" mode).  I'm not exactly experienced with these sorts of things, so I'm not sure what other info might be relevant.

Frustrating...these add-ons were the reason I upgraded from the 323 in the first place....

I've had no luck with Chrome.  In addition, I tried installing the add-ons using the web GUI with an IE tab extension on Chrome, but no luck either...and from what you are suggesting, it looks as if I shouldn't waste my time trying with "full blown" IE.  Thanks for the response.

I am having the same issue.

Can someone from D-Link please respond and let us know if this problem is being addressed? Can the developer please try an upgrade on his/her system to test if the latest released add-ons work.

Thank  you.

I agree.  D-Link needs to address this ASAP.  Given the number of views of this thread, I'm guessing it is a widespread problem.

@mark1900:
The plugins for firmware 1.01 won't work with 1.02 (once you upgrade it).
However, the north american D-Link page doesn't have the plugins for
firmware 1.02.

The reason your installation is failing is because you're trying to install
AjaXplorer for firmware 1.01 on a system with 1.02

This is what I did and it worked:
1) Go to the taiwanese D-Link site and look up DNS-325
http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/downloads2008.asp

2) The plugins compatible with firmware 1.02 and north american models
end in "2.00(for WW)"  [WW=worldwide]. Install these.

Merlin, thanks so much for this tip!  Success at last.  I haven't run anything yet, but I didn't receive an error message and the add-on appears in all the right places in the web GUI.  Still, I find it incredible that a company would make a firmware upgrade available - complete with a "North America" only warning - without testing or upgrading the add-ons.
