Firmare 1.01, no firewall or antivirus. latest Windows XP
Lost the all group on the firmware upgrade.
Set up 5 user accounts. 1 with access to everything under "Volume_1", 4 other users in a group named ALL. ALL has read only acces to "My Music" folder under "Volume_1". Each user has read/write access to their individual folder under "iTunes Folders" which is then pointed to for iTunes library functions and purchased music. Each user has their own Windows log in.
All references use the suggested \\dns-321\Volume_1\ pathing rather than the drive mapping some have had issues with.
So heres the question. When each user logs in, they have to go to Windows Explorer to enter a dns-321 user name and password to re-establish a connection before it works. I'd get over it but since 2 of the users are a 12 and 15 year old, them roaming around in Windows Explorer is very sub optimal. And ideas of a dns-321 or "My Network Places" fix so as to avoid the dns access login? Did a lot of reading last night but couldn't find this problem.
Thanks,
Chuck

So I thought I'd try and set up an "ALL" permission further up the structure and voila it creates a Volume_1-1. That's not helpful at all. Flushes out all the Volume_1 references from all external accesses.
It seems you have to entirely devise your access structure entirely for the NAS first rather than link external devices and then tweak access. So if you add something that requires a diffferent permission than everything else you're stuck. Oh and I'm terrified to turn it off given what I've read here.
Firmware upgrade on the horizon dlink?

Oh that was simple enough. Delete all accesses. Make a new group access for ALL at the top of the structure and I have Volume_1 back. Just going to give up on limiting people's access to their own stuff. Mr softy's ability to control that is less buggy at this point so I'll just keep that on the computer and only have my music collection and my video collection on the NAS and accessible from all points. Kind of a hack solution which is exactly what I was looking to avoid with this.
Cheers all.

Yes this is a known bug and will be resolved in the next firmware update I have been told. Also D-Link actively updates all of our product lines with new features, functionality, and bug fixes.
