Title: [Solved - partially] Problems with files larger than 2Gb.
Post by: albuemil on February 07, 2012, 12:32:40 AM
I just noticed a very weird problem.
I have a folder where i have some big files, through the local network (from Win7 and WinXP) i can see and access the files without problems.
The problem is that AjaxExplorer marks those files as folders and because of that i cannot download them remotely (only through the local network).

Also, if i run a shell on the NAS, "ls -l" shows the files correctly (without the "d" flag), but if i run Midnight Commander it doesn't show the files at all (it's like they don't even exist).

Does anybody have any idea what's wrong and how can i access those files remotely ?

At first i thought some file got corrupted, but now i see that it does the same with every file that is bigger than 2Gb.

What are you using for remote access to those files?  If it is FTP, older FTP clients had a built in limit of 2GB for files and as far as I know DOS still does.

It's not over FTP (haven't tested that yet), it's using the Ajax Explorer that comes with the NAS. The Ajax Explorer sees all files bigger than 2 Gb as folders and of course fails if i try to download them or to enter the folder.

Also, if i log in through telnet, when i list the files i can see all the files, but the Midnight Commander program (installed through FFP) doesn't see any of the files that are bigger than 2Gb.

P.S. I've tried both with a limited access user and with the admin/root user, same exact thing happens in Ajax Explorer.

So, nobody has any idea ?

Could somebody check if they have the same problem ?

Problem description : files larger than 2Gb are not accessible through the Ajax Explorer (they show up as folders instead of files), but they work correctly through network share.

Confirmed problem is related to current AjaXplorer version (ie, v2.7.2). I'm still trying to get the latest version working but is facing some issue.

Thanx for confirming, at least i know it's not just my device (i thought i might have done something wrong to it).
I'll post on the Firmware wishlist, maybe they'll upgrade the AjaxExplorer and fix this problem.

I have updated Fun_Plug to 0.7 and now the problem is partially gone. From Midnight Commander (mc) running through SSH (i use putty) I can finally see the files that are larger than 2gb.
From AjaxExplorer it still doesn't work since i couldn't find a way to upgrade it.

P.S. i use a lot mc through putty to move/copy files from one HDD to the other without having to use another computer, now i can finally copy/move the big files too. It's faster to move files from one HDD to the other through SSH (putty) than moving them through my PC connected to the NAS.
