On the platform specified below, I consistently find that an unattended Remote Desktop will hang, remain unresponsive for an indeterminate amount of time, and eventually reconnect, occasionally requiring me to log on to the remote machine again. This sequence of events is always accompanied by the following entry in the router log:
Blocked incoming TCP Ack packet from <client machine IP> to <host machine IP> with unexpected sequence
Searching for this text on the D-Link forums turned up the following post which suggests turning off SPI:
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42784.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42784.0)
This seems to have solved the problem, but I'd prefer to leave SPI on. Can anyone help me understand what is the root cause of the problem, and how it might be addressed without simply turning off security features?
Much appreciated!

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
Does RDP use specifc ports? If so, then you might need to set up port forwarding or some Firewall rules to allow RDP thru the FW with out hassles.

I have DSL.
Modem and router are separate.
Don't know the modem specs offhand. Will post later.
Modem is already bridged (WAN IP is IP from ISP).
RDP does use specific ports, and I have configured port forwarding previously.
Thanks for the fast response!
