Hello, this seems so basic I hate to ask, but:
Could someone tell me just how to input local backup source info. I just want to backup my pc to the raid1 nas. Nothing fancy.
The FAQ's say ; "URL Enter the URL of the site or server you are initiating a transfer from (e.g. ftp://123.456.789/Test or ftp://123.456.789/test.txt)"
What exactly is being asked for? I don't think I'm a "ftp". I would like to just enter the whole C:\ drive if that is possible. Do I have to use any other setup, like shares or? No other computer on LAN will use the nas.
thanks,
network newbie

Go the other way from PC to NAS. There's loads of free backup tools on the net if you search around. My favourite is Alwaysync http://allwaysync.com which is free. You could always use windows backup which ships with windows as well.

Hi,
I just want to do the same. Looking for that on google and I found that you must enter the URL ont the UNC form. So : \\ComputerName\DirectoryName\
As I can know, that worked.
Unfortunately Not with my NAS with FW 2.02...
So if anybody has a new answer ?

UNC will only work if sharing enabled on the folder you are accessing ( right click and share folder ) or you are connecting to an administrative share on the machine ( \\machinename\c$ )
Personally I've not used this feature and currently dont have access to test but if you are looking to backup a local machine to the NAS then in my opinion you are better running it from the machine in question as you have more control over what's backed up and also get a better idea if its working or not.

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try.

Thanks Bulles30, I'm happy to know I'm not alone with this. Good luck. I'm going to try the Allway sync solution and see what happens. I also am going to plug along and see if I can get the DNS 320 software to
work. BTW, my FW is same as yours.
Getting company in today, so won't have time to play for about a week, will post how Allway worked for me.
thanks all........

FWIW I tried the Allway Sync and seemed to work very well. In my case its just not as comprehensive as I would like. For me and using a "set and forget" method I am leaning on using MS backup. Thanks for your much appreciated input.
