Title: Changing CountryRegion Parameter
Post by: Raziel on February 15, 2012, 01:01:23 PM
Even though the router supports Region 1 (1-13 channels), it automatically switches to Region 0 (1-11) when the "Enable Auto Channel Scan" is checked.
Is there any way to set Region 1 as "default" ?  I mean taking into account 12 and 13 channels also ?
Where I live, the 2.4 GHz spectrum is quite congested. While using "inSSIDer", I noticed that the 12 and 13 channels are availabe, yet I don't want to use fixed frequency allocation method.

Any suggestions ?

Can you disable the Auto Channal Scan and use a manual channel of your picking?

Yes, of course I can.
But I don't want to quit the advantage of automatic channel selection, so I need to associate auto channel scan with Country Region 1 as default.
As I said in my previous post, when I check "Auto Channel Scan" option, the router automatically defaults to Region 0. So it must be a way for changing that.

Let's make things clearer with the help of logs:

I manually set channel 13. Now let's see the logs:

Code: [Select]
Feb 16 22:25:06 [SYSTEM]: WLAN[2.4G], Channel = 13
Feb 16 22:25:06 [SYSTEM]: WLAN[2.4G], CountryRegion = 1

Now I check "Auto Channel Scan". Let's see the logs again:

Code: [Select]
Feb 16 22:28:29 [SYSTEM]: WLAN[2.4G],Available Channel: [CH.1 ~ CH.11] -> this is because CountryRegion = 0 and not 1.
Feb 16 22:28:21 [SYSTEM]: WLAN[2.4G], Channel = AutoSelect
Feb 16 22:28:21 [SYSTEM]: WLAN[2.4G], CountryRegion = 0

Now see what I mean ? :)

I would presume this is coding and is the way they designed it. If there are or are not many other WiFi routers near by, you could use manual channel as a setting. It's recommended and preferred.

I would contact your local Dlink support office about this and ask them about this question.
