Ok.....i have a WBR 2310 that im using right now before my DIR 655 comes in tomorrow. Is there a way...that i can hook up my 655 by itself to work with my N laptop...and maybe connect my Playstation 3...Xbox...and my Videophone to the wired part of the 655. Then use the 1 extra Lan port to go out the 655 into the 2310 and use that 2310 just for the G laptop thats on the network? Without any kind of signal loss or anything at all?
I think ive done this before...but i cant remember the outcome. Now i had a N router...and is wondering.

Turning a router into an AP. (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=40856.0)
If your going to do that, preferred connections would be: ISP modem>DIR-655><WBR as an AP. <All wired devices to 655.

Ok..Furry let me ask this:
Im gonna get the router in a few minutes in the mail. I go out my Comast Modem..into the 655...config it.....then go out a Lan of the 655 into any Lan of the WBR?
NOW...everything that i have connected to my WBR right this second...which is my videophone...my xbox...all the configuration will stay the same? I just use a new SSID when i config the 655 right? When i plug the WBR into it...it should just go into use like before?

You'll need to assign the WBR a address from the 192.168.0. pool. So instead of 0.1, make it 0.50. If you maintain the same pool then all the devices connected to the WBR should work well. Turn off everything on the WBR, stuff like Firewall, QoS, uPNP, and any rules or filters you may have turned on, turn them off.

Ok..now im a lil lost. Im using the WBR right this second. My 655 hasnt come in just yet. Where do i change the IP in the WBR. Be a lil more specific if you can. When thw 655 comes in...i unplug the WBR right? And plug from the modem to the 655. Then run the wizard setup CD. After it sets up.....do i just go out from one of the Lans of the 655 into the WBR lan....thats it? And it should work like it does right now? Anything extra i should do to the WBR?

Review the Turning a router into and AP link. It's ALL there.

Right...but which router do i disable the
• Disable UPnP™
• Disable DHCP
And do i put the 192.168.0.50 into the New 655?
And this:
ISP Modem>Host Router><Lan port out from Host router to Lan port on router turned into an AP><All other Wired or wireless devices can connect to newly created AP from router. (WAN port on router turned into an AP is no loger used. Only the LAN ports can be used.)
This means ISP Modem into my New 655 then into my WBR? Just wanted to be sure which router its speaking of in the TUT.

Disable the items on the WBR and use it as the AP.
Leave the 655 alone and use it as the host router.
Yes, you'll change the WBRs default IP address to 192.168.0.50.
Yes.

Got it. Everything is clear now. Maybe just 1 more small question. When it comes....i plug my modem into the 655...and run the setup wizard. The setup wizard will give the 655 an IP address which is why i have to make the WBR routers IP 192.168.0.50...am i right? Then it should be online from there. Then from there...unplug it...and do all the things we just mentioned to the WBR router?
-
Yes. You'll need to go wired to the WBR with a PC. Then after you configure the WBR for AP, then connect to the 655 and you'll be good.
-
Perfect. I just got it. Its here now. Gonna hope it all goes smooth. Thanks alot Furry for the help.
And thanks for locking the other thread...i was about to cuss the fool out. Anyhow...thanks. Im gonna do it all right now...then come back here and tell you how it went. Hope it all goes smooth.

Even tho im online now...its stuck on the "Waiting for router" on the step 2/3 screen. Keeps saying there doesnt seem to be a ethernet cable plugged in. And this PC is plugged in firmly to Lan 1 on the 655. What now? Does it need to be reset? If it doesnt....dont say to do it lol. Thought maybe it needs to and the last person who used it didnt reset it.
-
You can. Only if this router is a used one. Should work out of the box if new.
-
Everything is working. Cept now the WBR...my videophone i use have a black screen. So something is wrong here. I disabled the DHCP. I didnt see the uPnP anywhere in my WBR. Everything else is working. My laptop with the wireless N is working. Not sure my WBR is.
Also...i forgot...how do i check my laptop to see if it is really using the Wireless N. In the 655...i did the wireless setup wizard...so i never actually clicked for N mode.
-
To see what the wireless is connecting at. Log into the router, go to the Status > Wireless page. it will show what mode the wireless connection is at.

Yea...i did that...and saw it said N. So i guess that means the laptop HAS to be using N or it wouldnt say that in the router right?

What did the speed say MBs? Should be between 130 and maybe 300Mb
-
Said 135. I mean...thats not too bad. Got my videophone workin. Now to connect my PS3 to the 655...then im good. All thanks to you guys. Thanks alot.

So 135 is what to you...not very good? Decent? Above decent? I dont really do not SERIOUS on the PC that will need crazy speed. But im a want guy. Wouldnt mind seeing the stuff the router is "Suppose" to do. know what i mean.
-
135 not bad, Furry is just showing what is needed to get up to 300.
