Title: My 655 wont do wifi 'n' with wpa set it will when I set it open
Post by: dougg on March 15, 2009, 08:56:46 PM
I have a computer with an N card it did work but now it wont if I use wpa it will only do wifi  G.  it does connect with N speeds in open mode.  I did play with wep on b and g mode to try to get a pocket pc to work and it did barely work but I decided to go back to combo B G and N with WPA and use bluetooth to sync the pocket pc.  Is it possible either the computer or adapter is falsely limiting the connection to G thinking it is still wep?  Does anybody now away to isolate the problem (card or router) or has this happened to anybody?

Did you already read this sticky ?

300 Mbps connection requirements! Please read!  (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=616.0)

Set your wireless to WPA2 with AES encryption if possible.

Sometimes windows remembers the settings of a connection even if you change them.
There are two ways you can try to get your 11n connection back.
1. Delete you Homenet profile in the wireless utility, then let the card detect it again and fill in your passphrase.

If this does not help...

2. Change the SSID in the router to a never used before SSID with encryption matching the 11N requirements and connect to it. This "new" connection should be recognized correctly by the client.

Thanks I got it,  the reset button fixed it,  maybe it was good to reset now that I am hopefully through playing/learning :)
