Hi everybody,
I have a DNS-323 and I've just bought a DNS-325. My DNS-323 is in RAID1 (mirror). I wish to put one of the hard drive in the brand new DNS-325 and would like to configure it as a single disk and format the drive. Then do the file copy from the DNS-323 to the DNS-325.
Then, I wish to put the second disk (which was just before in the DNS-323) and convert to mirror (RAID1).
Is it possible ? Or should I forget and use a temporary external drive ?
Thank you

It is sort of possible but i would go with the external solution Raid can be funny swooping from one controller to another if possible i would copy every thing to one drive you might have to remove one drive and read it with a external enclosure
but its risky

The addition of 2nd drive to the RAID1 set is the only thing that can go wrong here.
As far as I understand, the 2nd drive needs to be fully empty (without partitioning) for DNS-325 to reformat it into RAID1:

Before moving forward forward, I recommend you read the following thread (posted by D-Link) regarding transferring a DNS-323 Volume to a DNS-320. The DNS-320 has the same file structure as the DNS-325: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=38438.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=38438.0)
The DNS-323 uses a different file system than the DNS-320/325. From the previously referenced thread, it appears the DNS-325 will only support Standard Volumes and JBOD from the DNS-323, but will not accommodate RAID-1 arrays formatted in the DNS-323.
Although this defeats the purpose of your data migration strategy, you should always maintain a full backup of your data on a separate physical storage device before attempting any procedure that can potentially jeopardize your data.

Of course, you are right concerning the backup. My request was dedicated to avoid moving 500GB at 10MB/s (around 9 hours).
Well done guys, I put one of my RAID1 harddrive from DNS-323 in the DNS-325, format and create a standard volume. Processing copy (wait...) and then put the second harddrive. Easy ;)
