Title: DNS 323 Power Issue
Post by: Mealways on March 12, 2012, 12:55:00 PM
I purchased a new DNS 323 about a year ago, Installed two 1TB drives and never setup the device to any computer.  I simply put everything together and powered it up and all seemed to work properly, But I didn't have time to finish setting it up.  So I powered it down and it has sat there ever since.  Yesterday I tried to power it up and finish setup and nothing happens when I push the power button, no lights, no fans, nothing.  I see a green light on the power supply but cannot power up the unit.  Any Ideas?  Thanks in advance.

First thing check the power plug from the power supply is well seated in the socket of the DNS-323.  I once did a call out to a client that had the same symptoms as you and found the problem was the plug not seated fully.

If that doesn't fix the problem then get a multimeter and check you have both 12v and 5v at the plug.  The fact you have the green LED lit indicates you have one of the voltages but it needs both to work.

Other than those I would try removing the disks and seeing if it showed any signs of life.

Oh, you did hold the power button in for a time i assume as stated in the manual.

When you checked the power supply you did test all 4 of the pins I assume.

The other thing to check is the mains input lead and another power point.  If with a known good mains power lead and a known working power point the power supply still does not show an indicator light then you need to contact either your supplier or D-Link to get a replacement.

The information on the power supply should be sufficient for you to get the correct one.

The DNS-323 is a dual voltage supply providing 5 & 12 VDC - it would sound like you have the wrong power supply or your DNS may be different to the normal one.

I believe Lelenon6 was requesting the part number of the power supply so that he/she can order a replacement.

If that is the case then what I would do is contact DLink and have them order it for you because that is the only way you are going to get a power supply that is an exact replacement.

But for a product that is just two months old, they should just replace it for you.

Frankly you should not be in there checking voltages and such, that could even void your warranty.
Contact DLink.

Contacting the supplier or D-Link should be the first thing to do there is nothing wrong in trying to find out if it is in fact the power supply that is at fault.

The fact that leleon6 specifically mentions a 12v 4A supply makes me think he/she may have mixed up power supplies as that voltage and current is typical for many flat screen monitors.
