Title: Power LED not working after installing BitTorrent client on 1.06
Post by: 2tbnas on March 17, 2009, 11:04:26 PM
Just got my DNS-323.

Upgraded it to 1.06 firmware.

Installed it with 2  1-TB WD drives and configured as RAID-1 (entire space).
Everything working fine so far.

Downloaded the latest "Easy Search Utility 4.4.0.0"
 - the utility was able to detect the NAS.
 - installed BitTorrent client (the utility said restarting the device).

After this I was unable to
  - Log in via web UI (browser throbber icon just kept rolling, nothing displayed)
  - Easy search utility did NOT find the NAS.
  - Was able to ping the NAS
  - Tried hard reboot by holding the power button down -- nothing.
  - Tried reset with the reset button at the back -- nothing.

All along ping responses received and power LED glowing.

Had to power it down by pulling the power cord.
Removed my drives even though  don't have any data yet.

Plugged back on, now, the NAS seems to work okay EXCEPT power LED not working.

Tried reinstalling 1.06 firmware.

Thoughts?

Update 1:
Got ffp, logged in as root, looks like BT is not installed anymore. Maybe reinstalling 1.06 removed it?
In any case, the LED is still not working.
Hardware failure??

Any help -- or I am returning it (first few hours and things start breaking!!)

The power LED itself has probably failed - on a functional unit it's typically in one of the following four states ...

- off = no power to the unit
- flashing = the unit is booting up
- on bright = the unit is active
- on dim = the unit is "hibernated"

If your power LED is off and other LEDs on, it's not a normal condition - on a new unit, I'd return it, on an older, out of warranty unit, I'd ignore it (or solder a new LED in)

Thanks for the reply.

I think, I'll do just that -- return it.
