Title: URGENT: Crikey! Slow internet speed!
Post by: habsters on March 18, 2009, 07:52:02 AM
Connection map
Bought this router last Saturday, as my previous Belkin router's power supply had cranked on me.
Model of router Dlink Dir615. Operated on 2 computers XPHome SP3 and Vista HBasic SP1.
Hard-wired Ethernet Cat5 connection to router to Vista HB Pc.

Wirelsss worked fine for Vista PC but doesnt work with XP pc.
It reports as lost connection in XP Wireless utility. Unable to detect wired as it is not near the router.

So for the roundup,
VistaPc = wired
Xp Pc = wireless
Got it??? :-X

Problem
Fore my previous Belkin router, the connection can be at full speed.
Currently I am using a slow 1Mbps from my cable provider. That was just peanuts.
Soon will be upgrading to a 100Mbps connection when contract ends next month.

What makes it shocking is that the connction ran very SLOW. It was not what I expected.
from 200Kpbs to a staggering 17Kbps.
I have done an individual research on google. they said by disabling QoS engine, lowering MTP and changing the connection to 100Mbps instead of Auto 10/100.

An even with download accelerators, the speed is still persistent.
Is there problem with the firmware, or is there something wrong with the device?
Both wireless and wired produces speeds less than 20Kbps. Sometimes it can reach up to 1.5Kbps. This is a very scary case to me.
Any help?

Thanks in advance.

edit
And Btw the Router am using is DIR-615 B2.
Under firmware 2.25.

Ran this router on Belkin Wireless G Adapter.

With the DIR-615, you might want to test with the QoS service "disabled."  The 615 has the QoS service extremely limited.  You can only turn the QoS on or off.
