Title: transfer speed

Hello,

I do have a d-link dns-325 and am very surprised when I look at the connection speeds discussed in this forum.

When copying large files from NAS to PC the transfer speed is about 800k/s !

Here is my network configuration :

NAS has a fixed local IP address
NAS  is connected to d-link switch
Switch connected to the LAN via PowerLine Adaptator

Everything works well except the NAS speed

Any ideas on things I should try ?

Due to the fact that NAS has a gigabit LAN interface, I hope that your d-link switch is a Gigabit switch (I use D-Link DGS-1005D) and PowerLine adapter be a 500 Mbps adapter (I use D-Link DHP-501AV Powerline Adapter). Logically check also the network cables, they must support gigabit speed.

If you need a new 4 port gig switch check out this one $22 shipped.  You can flash DD-WRT on it which is what I'm going to do.

I'm too am using the power line adapters, the ones from AT&T Uverse, I'm going to see what speed they are because I get a lot of latency when gaming (75+ms response).  I'm betting it's the power line adapters.

Make sure the setting on your NIC are default.  I played around with disabling QOS and a few other things and was getting 800k too.  After I put everything back to default I was getting 11mb per second on my old Netgear router.  But my gig Belkin router came in this past weekend and I did flash it with dd-wrt, and I also upgrade the NIC on my PC to gig so I'm getting 22mb per second out of the box.  I played around with Jumbo frames and get burst of 30mb per second with 22mb as my average.  Which is all a gig wired connection can do.

One piece of information you failed to mention is how your PC is connected to your network. Is you PC wired or wireless? To rule out other variables, you may consider connecting your PC and DNS-325 directly into the Ethernet ports on the rear of your router to test throughput. If you will be passing large volumes of data between the PC and NAS on regular basis, you should consider connecting the NAS and PC to the same switch to reduce traffic on the rest of the network.
