Title: Replacing with exsiting router

I just bought this router and i was wondering can i replace this router with the one that i have through my dsl provider? basically i just dont want to use that one anymore and will it do the same thing?

Make sure that the DSL provider's router is not a modem/router combo and you have the complete details of your type of service, then you should be able to use your new 615.

well i have the 2Wire 2701HG-B. is that any help?

Your DSL service modem IS NOT a separate unit from the router.  The 2Wire modem does everything and I am not sure how to add a second router to your network.  You might have better success in www.dslreports.con than just with D-Link.  The problem is with the 2Wire.

The other thing you might be able to do is to set up the 615 router as an access point instead.

1) Assign static (fixed) IP to the 615 -- must not be the same as the 2Wire and must be outside of the DHCP range of the 2Wire

2) Turn off the DHCP service on the 615

3) Leave the WAN port empty on the 615

4) Connect a Ethernet wire from the 2Wire "LAN" port to a LAN port of the 615

5) Turn off wireless on the 2Wire

6) Set up wireless on the 615


After this all the "firewall" / port forwarding / virtual server and other feature will not be used.  All of these will be still done by the 2Wire.

well i was just hoping to get this one and just replace my router that i have since i can't connect my ds to my wireless router that i have and everywhere i go i can connect to other people routers and i hate that i cant connect at home. well i'll have to send it back when it gets here then. wife will be mad as hell.

Well regardless this router is not a modem.. You're still going to need to use your 2wire as your modem but have it in bridge mode so you can use the router. You will need to contact your service provider and have them put your modem in bridge mode in order to use the router. After that I would enter in a primary DNS address (e.g. 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3)

well i got my new router today and installed it but it sucks. i wonder if i can make the connection speed faster. all i did was called tech support and they helped me just fine. i didnt have to call my isp for anything.

well now the problem is that i cant connect wireless with a laptop that has xp but i can connet with vista.
