Title: Unable to connect to internet after waking from sleep
Post by: wakeen1966 on April 07, 2012, 03:38:51 PM
More trouble with this otherwise great router. After waking my computer from sleep, I cannot get out to the internet until I cycle power to the router. Craziest thing is, the wireless always works. I upgraded from a Dlink DIR655 which worked great. I have updated the LAN drivers for my motherboard and tried both 1.01 and 1.02 FW for the router. Any ideas?
I use Charter High Speed with a Motorola SB6120 modem.

There any NIC settings regarding sleep mode or power mode options?

I don't think so. I certainly never had this problem with the 655.

I have been looking into this issue and I am wondering if the routers 'Green Technology' features are at the root of this problem. According to DLink, these routers (and other green products) power the ports down when the host computer goes to sleep. Maybe there is a delay in powering the ports back up when the pc wakes up and that delay is perceived as the router being off-line and not allowing internet access. If anyone out there has access to more information on this please share it with the rest of us so we can at least know the cause of our headaches!
Thanks

More on this issue...
I am also seeing the problem of not being able to access many sites that I visit on a daily basis after comming out of sleep. This again is solved by cycling power to the router.

I Think there might be a green options features somewheres in the Advanced menu. Let us know if you see this and if you can disable it and test.

I looked and did not see anything related to Green settings at all.

I have given up on this router and gone back to my 655. At least the 655 does what I want when I want. I plan to return it for a refund.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com) if your interested. Its safe and secure.

When you come out of standby/hibernation do you get an IP address?

- Go to the command prompt and type in "ipconfig" to see if you get media disconnected or an IP. If you get an IP try to see where the kink is

- ping 192.168.0.1
- ping 4.2.2.2
- ping yahoo.com

Depending on the results of those it would be easier to narrow down the issue. It "could" also be Green ethernet that is messing it all up but it's rare. If you have a rev B 655 it would have green ethernet as well.

Does this issue happen on another desktop? (if you have another desktop to test). You could also try setting a static IP w/dns on your desktop to see if that helps.

I just thought of another thing. If you come out of sleep mode there is a chance your PC is trying to obtain an IP address that is already being used. This would cause intermittent and/or no connectivity. The way to test would be to set a static of say 192.168.0.40, 255.255.255.0 and gateway of 192.168.0.1 and then use your ISP's DNS. If the problem goes away you should probably use the DHCP reservation feature on the router so at least when it comes out of hibernation it gives it an IP that wouldn't be assigned to any other device on your network.

Worth giving it a shot nevertheless.

Just some additional thoughts that could be contributing to your connectivity problems. See my post about DNS Relay settings at http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=45143.0. Also, curious to know what your ISP provider connection idle timeout is set to, e.g. "Maximum Idle Time". Is the little Internet/ISP connection globe on the top of the DIR-827 colored orange before/during/after you experience these connectivity issues? Also, have you setup a GuestLAN on the Wireless? Just trying to determine the differences between the LAN segment that does not work and the WiFi segment that does.
