Title: wifi speed

hi  :)

i am new no the dns-323 and have a question, iīve got a wd20ears and a wd15earx inside, both 80% filled
the wd15earx is a little faster than the wd20ears using the latest firmware 1.10.

when using my laptop with lan i get 15 megabytes/s writing speed and 25 megabytes/s reading, i think those are the normal speeds for this unit, so far no problem.

when i use laptop --> wifi --> router --> cable --> dns-323 i get 12 megabytes/s writing speeds but only 9 megabytes/s reading speed...... i expected about 15 mb/s reading speed.

the router is an asus rt-n56u and i use the 5 ghz band and is in the same room as the laptop, if i copy from laptop --> wifi --> router --> cable --> pc i get copy speeds of 20 mb/s
(no one else and no other routers on the 5 ghz band, checked with "inssider 2.0)
 
i measure the speeds with "lan-speed-test"

is there any way to get better reading speeds from the nas over wifi?

Generally speaking, if you are transfering large files, you should enable Jumbo frames. Additionally, disabling iTunes, DHCP Server, and UPnP server will reduce overhead and should have a positive impact on performance.

On a 5Ghz router connected at 300, I would expect you to see ~10-12 MB/s write and ~14-15 MB/s read.

Curiosly enough, although, WiFi frames are larger than 1500 bytes, and therefore technically jumbo frames - enabling jumbo frame will not provide any performance benefits to a WiFi network - it's primarily used with gigabit networks.

hi all :)

just a small update

i have tried changing the mtu (from 1500 to 1430) but that didīnt make such a big  difference....maybe 0.5 mb/s in both directions.

i forgot to mention that my laptop is using a intel wifi 5300 agn, now the funny thing:
deleting all intel drivers....so win7 uses the original microsoft driver.....speeds things up

i retested all intel drivers (installed driver and then rebootet) and all intel drivers give me 9 to 10 mb/s reading speeds.

with the win7 microsoft driver 12.4.1.4 i get reading speeds of nearly 13 mb/s and writing speeds about 12 mb/s.......thatīs ok for me

i read in a different forum that somebody claimed to have 20 mb/s reading and writing over wifi......but i donīt think that is possible.

new update

canīt stop playing around with settings....silly me :D

after to much "playing" i had to reinstall windows 7......this time i took a non-modified (original) version and without changing anything i still get about 12 to 13 MB/s write speeds.....BUT now have 17 to 19 MB/s read speeds  ;D

now a very happy dns-323 owner and not playing with settings anymore  ;D

My wireless throughput on Windows 7 is within a similar range as yours for upload (9-12 MB/s) and download (17-20 MB/s) to/from my DNS-343 which is of the same family of D-Link NAS as the DNS-323. I wasn't able to achieve these wireless speeds until upgrading my router to the new DIR-857.
