Title: Suddenly cannot port forward
Post by: Coropo on March 20, 2009, 11:57:43 PM
Hello everyone,

I have been using this router for quite some time and all has been good. It wasn't only until recently when I tried to check if my ports are open (via a couple of sites e.g. www.canyouseeme.org) that I found out my ports were no longer being forwarded.

I double-checked my settings to make sure they were forwarded correctly to the proper addresses. All were good as far as I know. I cannot figure out what's wrong. I have been trying to host a game to test and results have been negative.

Does anyone have any idea? Any tips or comments would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Dan

This is what I get from the "Internet Sessions" under the "Status" tab when I try to check a supposedly forwarded port, 14632.

5.187.164.97:14632 | 222.164.171.153:14632 | *.*.*.*:* | UDP | -    | - | 128 | -
5.187.164.97:14632 | 222.164.171.153:14632 | *.*.*.*:* | TCP | NO | - | 128 | -

Hi,

What game is it?

Hi Reinvented,

I just can't port forward in general. All my ports can't be detected as open. Games and applications I tried to port forward are,

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne,
Titan Quest,
Utorrent,

And some other random test ports. They all don't work :(

I cannot see many of my ports either.  What are your firewall settings?

And, what firmware version are you using?

I turned off my Windows firewall (that's the only one I have) just to check if it was my firewall. Turns out it wasn't. So my firewall settings are really not the issue here.

I am using version 1.21. If you are talking about the firewall settings on the router, I have SPI turned off and both endpoints on "Independant". I also have all the ALG's checked. The rest are unchecked.

utorrent does not need to be forwarded or at least it works for me just fine without forwarding.
Make sure UPnP is enabled on the router.

I am having the same issue except I just received my dir-655 a few days ago.  I know all settings for port forwarding are correct in my router but when I test all of the ports nothing works.  I'm thinking of testing the beta 1.22 firmware to see if it is just a quirk of the 1.21 firmware.

I've configured and used at least 15 different routers at work or on my spare time for friends and this is the first one that took the settings just fine but just don't work.

tested the new beta of the firmware and still getting blocked ports.  Makes no sense.

Yes, I was referring to the router firewall settings.

You are in the right section for port forwarding right?  Not Virtual Server or any of that?

And, if you think that you may have had a bad flash of firmware, re-flash it again and redo all of your settings.  Do not back up your configuration files.

Weird thing now.  I tested my UDP ports and they seem to be working.  Only TCP aren't.

Does someone have an older firmware pre 1.21 that I can test?   The router I just switched from worked just fine, just didn't have the signal strengh of this one...might have to return this one and go back...but I really like this router   ???

EDIT...
just tested port translation in the virtual server settings for rdc and that is working just fine.

Yes, I am in the right section for port forwarding -_-

Although I am not a networking expert, I have handled multiple routers before and they all worked, save for this one. I have basic knowledge on how to port forward. I am just saying this so people won't assume it's a simple problem like I left the box unchecked or whatever.

Btw, problem still persists. Whether utorrent works fine or not is irrelevant, it is just one of my test programs. I still can't get any ports to open. I cannot host WC3 or anything that requires port forwarding.

You never mentioned if UPnP was enabled or not.  That's very important too.

Did you give the 1.22b05 firmware a try?  Lots of people seem to be having a good amount of success with it.
