Title: No Connection to the Internet
Post by: Siggi on March 22, 2009, 08:19:09 AM
Hi,

I swapped my old DI 614+ with the DIR 625. My DIR 625 does not sync with the cable modem I am using (Arris, with VOIP).

The settings of the old DI 614+ showed for the WAN setting the following info:
IP: 69.81.54.212

I can ping this adress, when the DI614 is connected.
I can not ping this address, when the DIR 625 is connected.

Any idea, how I can get the DIR 625 sync with my Arris VOIP cable modem (ISP is earthlink / bright house)

Thanks,

Siggi

Cable Modems tend to use DHCP service to assign IP addresses.  When replacing a router, you should turn the cable modem off first, replace the modem and turn the modem back on.  This should tell the DHCP service, at your ISP end, to re-assign an IP address.

I have RoadRunner and a Motorola SBV5220 cable/voip modem.  To get any router to connect through the cable modem to the net, I have to set the DHCP mac id in the router internet setup to the cable modem's mac id.  Otherwise, can't connect to the net.

The VOIP modem have backup batteries that keep them from being power cycled. This can be an issue wirh hooking up new hardware becuase the MAC address of the previous router is registerd with the ISP and not being able to power cycle the modem keeps you from being to renew that address. Thats where cloning the MAC address can be helpful.

You simply need to find out what MAC address is currently registered to the modem and type that in the MAC boxes.
