Hey Everyone,
I was pulling my hair out trying to get the email alerts to work for me.
Did the usual, called D-LINK - No help, they told me to call Bell Sympatico since it was their problem.
D-LINK also told me it had to do with firewalls blocking ports etc..
the FIX!!!!
here is what worked for me:
since i tried with bell sympatico settings and could not get it to work, i tried GMAIL.
BUT, HOTMAIL is my primary email account, so i did the following:
login Method: ACCOUNT
username: <myname>@gmail.com
password: <password>
SMTP settings: smtp.gmail.com
sender email: type any email eg: any@any.com - as long as it is in the name@name.something format
(may as well use your real email, but i really dont think it matters)
Receiver emai: <username>@hotmail.com
oh yeah, you obvisouly use your own valid email address inside the <> brackets.
then i hit the TEST EMAIL settings and it WORKED!!!!
So, since i saw some success with others and gmail, i decided to open up a gmail account and use the gmails smtp settings and then send it to my hotmail account, which i am always on.
I hope this helps anyone out there having the same issues i had, if not, get back to me and i will try and explain some more.
Basically, i dont think it matters what ISP you have, just use gmails stuff

Another suggestion for people who are having trouble getting this set up...
My ISP is cox cable, and they filter SMTP, allowing traffic only to their SMTP server, which they then relay. If your ISP does this, then you may need to use the SMTP server address that they provide, rather than the SMTP server address provided by your preferred webmail service.

Steve,
Thank you! That is a winner!!
Confirmed, this solution works for f/w ver. 1.06.
I was banging my head against a wall trying different accounts, firewall ports, various prayers and curses; until I stumbled upon this forum.

This is, more or less, a "bump"...
Using F/W v1.07, I was not able to get E-mail alerts to GMail to work, until I found and tried the above settings (without the brackets "< >", of course). E.g....
Login Method: Account
User Name: jane.doe@gmail.com (1)
Password: xxxxxxxxx
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Sender E-mail: jane.doe@gmail.com
Receiver E-mail: jane.doe+my-dns-323@gmail.com (2)
(1) Don't just use your Google account User name, use your full Google GMail account's e-mail address.
(2) By adding a "+alias", I can label/filter/fwd the alerts. See: GMail Help: Using an address alias (http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=12096)
- Gmail doesn't offer traditional aliases, but you can receive messages sent to your.username+any.alias@gmail.com. For example, messages sent to jane.doe+notes@gmail.com are delivered to jane.doe@gmail.com.
- You can set up filters to automatically direct these messages to Trash, apply a label or star, skip the inbox, or forward to another email account.
If this does not work, check your GMail account settings.
