Title: Syslog Feature Request
Post by: tvBilly on March 25, 2009, 02:25:01 AM
It would really help my little network if I could set the Syslog facility type in my 655. It's currently fixed in firmware to "security" (also known as "remoteauth" to some Syslog servers), facility=13 rather than the more common local0 or local1 (facility=16 or 17). In any case, it would be nice if I could set it to whatever facility I need in the Tools/Syslog configuration screen, which is currently pretty empty.

(And why I want to do it, is I have multiple firewalls and devices sending stuff to a single Syslog server, and being able to shuffle messages off to their appropriate individual log files is greatly aided by being able to set a given devices facility type).

Thanks for considering this; I realize this verges pretty close to a pro feature, not a home feature. I'm hoping it's actually so easy to implement, that you won't just dismiss the request as out of hand.  ::)

Your last statement is certainly close to the truth  ;)

And looking at the router's lifecycle I doubt that such a feature will be implemented at this stage. But: I'm not Dlink  :D
