I'm at my wits end.
DNS 323
2x SAMSUNG HD103UJ 1TB drives
RAID1 Configuration
Problem: Unit always goes into "Degraded" Status after a few weeks (at least that's how often I check).
What good is this unit if I can't rely on the RAID1???? HELP!!

Interesting problem, I have two questions for you...
1. How do you know the "Degraded Status" is incorrect?
2. How do you get the RAID to go out of "Degraded" Status?

1. I never said it was incorrect. I just stated what status it seems to regularly go into.
2. I have to do a manual rebuild each time.
All I want to know is why does this happen, and what (if anything) can I do to prevent it?

Could it be a hard disk hardware problem? Have you tried to run Samsung's disk
tools on the degraded drive? http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/utilities/ES_Tool.html

what version of the firmware are you running? If it's V1.06 try reverting to 1.05.

I'm running 1.06. I would be loving this DSN-323 a lot more if it worked well. I'm also having problems with the bitorrent client.

I have exactly the same issue, everyfew weeks my drives go degraded and I have to manually rebuild.
-Status lights are both blue
-Only one drive light is flashing
-Manual Rebuild fixes the issue.
-Breaks again after a week or two
-do it all over again :(
-Never happened pre 1.06
Please fix this ongoing issue, it has been reported MANY times, by many different people running MANY different harddrives.
I have the 1TB seagates in raid 1, and I have applied the firmware fix to those drives also...

I have same issue, though not as often. Zed_Mike described it perfectly.
I have 2 x 500GB Hitachi drives.
For me DNS-323 needs to serve as a reliable backup. With RAID 1 going to degraded status without actual hard drive failure, WHAT'S THE POINT OF HAVING THIS UNIT?
Please, fix this CRUCIAL issue!

Same problem here. I have two 750GB WD drives. Using a 250GB Raid 1 partition with the rest configured as a JBOD. I might get anywhere from one day to several weeks between getting the degraded status. I don't appear to be losing any data, on either the Raid 1 or JBOD partitions but it's a real pain in the butt to have to rebuild everytime.
Running firmware 1.06. I don't recall it happening with earlier firmware versions, although I'm not 100% certain.
Until it's fixed, I picked up an external 1GB HD and occasionally run a sync program to backup the DNS 323. Pretty bad when one feels the need to back up a supposedly secure Raid 1 device.
Anyway, sent an email to tech support to see if they have anything to offer in the way of a fix.
