I live in Bangladesh. We don't get much variety in the way of hardware over here. I tend to buy when I go to Malaysia. The D-Link 323 caught my eye, as one of the available NAS in Malaysia (Low Yat Plaza is ground zero for computer hardware purchases in Kuala Lumpur).
I have read quite a few reviews, some positive, some negative. I like the fact that some Linux hackers have created software to utilise the device as a server in various ways. Sounds interesting. I see that in/output is pretty slow, so I guess that a slower drive will be more than adequate. Low power is probably a bonus in the small (hot) housing.
These are the drives I can find online (in Low Yat plaza). Limited information, as you can see. I can't find the drive IDs, just these descriptions. What do you think I should get? The MYR is the Malaysian Ringit price. 500 MYR is 163.77 USD.

All of these drives will probably require firmware 1.10. Is it available for your country? Check support.dlink.com/products. DNS-323 units will have limited support in the future.

I thought owners could freely download firmware anywhere they lived. Thanks for the warning.
