So I finally got all the kinks worked out, after updating the firmware and changing my networks third octet, and now I run into another issue. The thing works great right when I turn it on but the next day is unresponsive. The long light and hard drive light is solid blue and the network light is constantly flashing. If I turn it off and back on it works fine, until the next day that is... I don't have any alerts turned on or shutdown alarms. I turned off the HDD hibernation today to see what effect it will have. Any suggestions?

Please provide version of firmware and information about hard drive you using. It will be interesting to lot of people using DNS-321.
UPDATE. 03-30-2009.
My unit working just fine.(DNS-321 1.02b5.)
I have 2 hard drives. One Seagate 7200.11 1TB with updated firmware (SD1A) and WD Caviar Black 1TB. Both times inactivity about 24 hours, both times even fan is stopped. No wake-up problem at all.
-
I run firmware 1.01 with the Seagate 1.5TB drive. The firmware on the Seagate is supposedly newer and not considered a problem version.
I have the exact problem described above. The drives become non repsonsive, and the only solution is to physically unplug the unit and then plug back in to reboot. Pressing the front button does not reboot the machine.
-
I would recommend try reflashing the firmware on the unit.
-
Why would reflashing the firmware do anything?
Seems to me that if the unit is working, then the firmware is by defniition fully installed.
Or does the machine do some kind of special reset with a firmware flash?
-
Actually just try Resetting the unit to factory defaults that is something you want to do after updating firmware on this device. Then configure for your needs.
-
Have you considered the possiblity that maybe, just maybe, this is a bug that you can address?
-
Did you ever Reset the device to factory defaults after flashing to the latest firmware?
-
Yes, I did. Then I also tried increasing the temperature setting to see if that fixed the problem.
Really and truly there is a bug that needs to be fixed. I have tried posting this about 8 places. I am not having a network problem. It is a general system freeze.
-
Are you using the UPnP AV media server, iTunes server or FTP server enabled on the unit? After resetting the unit to default these option should be disabled.
-
ECF;
Good point. They are turned off about the reset. I have been turning all three services back on.
Should I turn all three off? Permanently?
-
That would be a good idea to try an pinpoint the cause of the Lock up by disabling each one, one by one. Maybe just disabling the iTunes server first and see if the issue persists.
-
I have disabled the itunes server. So far the unit remains running after two days.
Perhaps those three services are the culprit. Is there an effort underway to update them to improve system stability?
-
Yeah we are currently looking into this if this is the case and seems to resolve any issues such as this.
-
Boy, turning off the itunes server dramatically improved the reliability of this unit. It makes this a much better solution. Thank you for the suggestion. I look forward to the progress report in improving the stability of the three services that are probable sources of time-outs.
I also do appreciate that you responded to me rather than suggesting it was some kind of user error. This greatly improves the customer experience.
Thank you again.

Great to hear and Thank you.
