Title: DNS-320 Can't format new Seagate ST2000DL004 as Volume_2
Post by: AMcK on May 13, 2012, 12:30:08 AM
I have a DNS-320 with one Samsung SpinPoint F4 EcoGreen 2TB HD204UI formatted as a single drive Volume_1.
I tried to buy the same again but was supplied with Seagate ST2000DL004. I understand that Samsung HD204UI stock is mixed with the new Seagate ST2000DL004. The Line is being transitioned out as the HD204UI and will become the above Seagate part instead.
I tried Format the new drive as Standard type. The system gets through the Initialize phase quickly but then hangs in the Volume_2 Formatting forever at 0%.
I have connected the drive to a PC and checked that I can delete partitions - it seems to function OK.
Any suggestions

Search through the forums there's several posts about formatting a second disk. Easiest way if I remember is take out the first drive let it format then pop the 1st drive back in.

Thanks for the advice. I'd already started down that path before reading your reply by removing the active drive from the left slot and formatting the new drive alone in the same slot. I moved the newly formatted drive to the right slot and put the old drive back in the left slot. I now have 2 x 2TB to play with. What a wonderfully idiosyncratic device this is. The good news is that the Smasung now rebranded as Seagate is fully supported.  :)
