Title: Can I use the DIR-615 and its routrer functions behind another router?
Post by: DanH on May 22, 2012, 05:27:36 PM
I would like to use the web access control that is on the DIR-615 along with my 2Wire modem/wireless router.  Is this possible?  If not is is possible to put the 2Wire modem into bridge mode and purchase a second wireless modem to run along side the DIR-615 that I have so that I can have two separate wireless networks that have two different web access controls in place?

Thanks for your help!

If the 2Wire has a DMZ option, place the IP address the 615 gets from the 2Wire in the DMZ. Its preferred to put the 2Wire into bridge mode and let the 615 handle all of the network traffic, however be aware that some 2Wire modems can't be bridged. There are sites that offer how to bridge 2Wire modems. I would review and check out information on DLink DAP model access point devices if you want to add additional wireless services. You an run the same wireless SSID however the channels need to be different. This also depend on your surrounding environment.
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/) to find out.
