Hi, I received the above access point from oversea's and was wondering; when a firmware update needs to be done, do I need to download the firmware from the country the AP was bought from?
Thanks

Most likely or you could try using WW type firmware. Most unit sold in the U.S. use NA versions that are specific to our region. Each region has different rules, wireless and such so thats why each region is different. Wireless channeling and signals are a bit different too. So this unit bought over seas might not work well with wireless signals here in the U.S. I would contact DLink and ask for specific information regarding this.

Some very valid points in there ;). I actually bought the unit from the US to use in the Asia Pacific region cause they are basically half the price, and it's to replace my old Cisco Wireless G access point.
So back to my OP, I could use any firmware but be cautious as some features may not be available or work properly? I don't transfer any large files, only have one AP, don't really fiddle around with settings, so as a replacement AP I'm hoping it should be OK.
Thanks again for your reply, I'll email D-Link for my region and ask them :)

At this point it could be possible however, again, NA units are subject to different laws and guidelines regarding wireless and radio channels. There maybe be differences between NA and Asian units HW wise that may limit the FW to using specified regions. Only DLink will be able to tell you officially if using ANY firmware version would work. It's possible that maybe the WW versions could work. Keep us posted on what they say.

Although, they are both appeared to be same version, please upload the firmware from US site. Uploading a firmware from different region may "brick" the unit. Should you require further assistance with your D-Link products, please reply to this message, or call toll free at 877-453-5465. Thank you for networking with D-Link.
Firmware updated from the US site and all is good.
