Title: MP3 / WAV / WMA files on DNS-321
Post by: WesStewart on March 28, 2009, 07:41:28 PM
I have 1000's of music files on the DNS-321. If I try to play them from my PC using Media Player I get an error  :-[ on all of the files I have tried. If I copy them to a local drive and play from there it is fine. I also have a network device that reads networked music files and plays them through you stereo device. This unit works fine also.

It just seems to be if I try to play music files from the DNS-321 with Media Player.

Any ideas why this is happening?  ???

Thanks,

Wes

Windows Media Player pops up the following error:

Windows Media player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn or sync an item that is in you library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed or deleted.

This happens on all MP3 files I try to play with media player. As I stated if I copy it to the local drive it will play correctly.

Thanks,

Wes

Try restarting the unit and refresh the UPnP AV media server. Also if you are sharing the root try just sharing the folder containing your MP3's. What firmware version are you running?

I had a simular problem accessing vidio files with WMP. Found out that if you are trying to access the files through a mapped drive letter it won't work. You have to go to network places and double click the media file from there and then it will work.

I've had the same issue.
If I attempt to play media on the DNS-321, via the mapped network drive, I get an error using windows media player. I don't get an error if I go through network places, to the same file.

On - another issue:
Also, when I attempt to play ripped avi files, w/ multi-channel audio (more than two channels, ie a ripped video w/ 5.1 audio as opposed to 2.0 audio) on my XBOX 360, I get an error code. If I attempt to play the same file through a DSM-520 it seems to work ok.

I will follow this post up with an error code # later this evening.
