Title: WD20EARS format never ends
Post by: danchou on June 03, 2012, 05:57:14 AM
Trying to format my 2GB WD drive, previously formatted as NTFS, using the web interface.
I get stuck in the format screen at 0%: Step 2 Formatting Hard Drive(s).
This is the second disk in the DNS-320, the first one is a Samsung 2GB, which I formatted easily.
Anybody knows how to fix this issue?
Is the drive non compatible?

This is a known issue, for some reason the NAS fails when formatting the 2nd drive (I had problems with both WD and Seagate drives).
The solution is to take out the other drive, format this drive while it's alone and then put back the original drive.

The only problem is that i don't know if you can make a RAID if you formated the drives individually, never tried it since i just use the drives as 2 independent drives anyways.

Here is another thread regarding the same problem :
Formatting second drive hangs for eternity (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=45371.0)
