Title: Internet sessions not being released?
Post by: CoreDump on March 30, 2009, 11:44:41 PM
I lost network connectivity twice last week.  I couldn't even get to the login page (connected through ethernet cable) until I power cycle the router.  One thing I noticed before losing connection was the large number of internet sessions shown in the Internet Session status page (lots and lots of entries).  It showed connections to some reserved IP's that were not connected to the router at that time.  How can I make sure router is releasing sessions correctly?  If I disconnect a machine from the router, all the sessions to and from that machine should be released and not be shown on the Internet Sessions page anymore, correct?  Is it possible that the router is holding on to expired sessions and causing it to run out of resource?

I have been running into an issue similar to this.  I am running the new 1.22b05 however, I updated to this to try and fix the issue, but still seems to be running into this.  I think I hit this issue when going from 1.11 to 1.2+.

My symptoms are:

Internet will slow down.  Wireless will be "connected", but I can't login to the router.  Wired has the same issue.  Internet completely stops.  If I go to the modem, its activity light is solid orange, doesn't even get a break from data.  When I unplug/plug in the router, the internet returns to normal and it works for a couple days and then I run into the same issue.  Its been so annoying that I am thinking about getting a new router, but have been waiting for 1.22/1.3 final.

If this isn't what you are seeing, sorry for posting this, I will make a new thread.

Yes, it is the same issue that I have encountered.  Both wired and wireless connections are still indicated to be connected but unable access anything, not even the router's login page.

Whats the status on your modem?  Is the activity light constant or flashing?  Also, what firmware are you running.

I have rev. A4 with 1.21.  I didn't pay much attention to the activity light but if I remember correctly, it was blinking very slowly.

Well, to be fair, it doesn't happen often.  I have had it for 3 weeks and only see the issue twice.  It is by no mean less stable than my old Linksys.  After all, it is not a business class router.

I have a similar issue with it dropping WAN connections. My DC's run DNS/DHCP not the router, the router only does just that routing, it doesn't handle anything else, I have a switch that handles all my traffic to prevent collisions and the like. The router will be fine then I notice my internet slowing to a crawl and then the connection to the WAN just drops. The router shows no dropped packets, so it is something in the firmware programming. It never used to do this until 1.21, I can't use 1.11 because the stupid router will not switch from 20hZ to 40hZ like it should and my 802.11n broadcom card in my laptop will only connect at 130 then. I am in the same boat thinking about getting a different router, and I heard the 855 is better.
