I have serrious issues with this DIR-655 router. Every half an hour it drops my Bell Canada DSL connection. In the logs, this message is displayed:
"PPPoE session 0x1449 terminated by access concentrator"
This usually happens when I`m downloading.
I tried everything: disabled SPI, Antispoof check, UPNP, set wired connection to 10mbps, lowered MTU and many others.(I work in IT so I know what I`m doing). Then I called D-Link tech support, losing a good couple of hours on the phone with them. They asked me to modify the same settings in order to get things going, but no success.
I`m using a wired 1000mbps connection to connect to the router. I also have a wireless laptop (the transfer speed on wireless is slow too, but right now that`s my second concern)
Everything was fine until 3 weeks ago. Since then I don`t know what happened (I haven`t changed any settings to my PC or router!!) but I`m getting these disconnects.
Because D-Link couldn't`t figure out a solution for me, I went back to BestBuy and replaced the router with a new one. I took it home, upgraded to 1.05 and I still have these issues.
There was a strange thing though. On the box it saids that it is hardware revision A2. When I first started the router I saw hardware version A1 and firmware 1.02. When I flashed the router with firmware 1.05, the hardware version changed for A1 to A2.
My question is: Has anyone encountered a similar situation and found a fix for it?
If not, i`m hoping that a new firmware will fix this and I hope it comes out soon.

Ok the above is a serious tangent from our original topic of discussion and deserves it's own thread so I am going to split it into a new topic.
As for your problem, the phrase "terminated by access concentrator" makes me think that maybe your ISP is the problem. You mentioned this is during downloads, dare I ask what you were downloading?
Did you contact your ISP yet, perhaps they mistook the nature of your download as a violation of your terms of service or something and dropped the connection. Such things are not impossible.

This issue never happened before 3 weeks ago. And I`m with this ISP for 2 years now.
The DIR655 was purchased at the end of July, this year, and it worked perfectly until this started happening.
P.S. the proper topic name should be: PPPoE - connection terminated by access concentrator!

Fixed the subject, sorry about that.
The fact that you haven't had the problem before may have nothing to do with the DIR-655.
The fact that it did not start with your DIR-655 being brought in, but waited a while (from July to 3 weeks ago) is also suspect.
In other words what does your ISP have to say about it?

Instead of "suspecting" me, maybe you should try helping. Especially because you work for D-Link. I`m sorry that I have to tell you how to do your job.
The fact that I`m not like your regular tech support client, always calling when the smallest issue appears, is because I work in IT and that`s what Ive been doing my whole life AND I like to troubleshoot on my own. You should respect that, not suspect it. Because at least I`m reading your manual and I`m not calling to ask you how to access my router or how to change my password.
For two weeks I did troubleshooting on my own and also searching various forums for similar issues etc (and I`m not the only one with this problem). It took me two weeks because not everyday when I`m coming home from work I`m in the mood for troubleshooting. Working 8 hours with computers is enough sometimes. So after that I called your tech support. I don`t want to comment now on the quality of service provided. It`s not what i`m trying to do here. I am an understanding person and I did n`t got mad on the phone after calling 4 times, talking with 4 different people (for 45 minutes per call), because no one could resolve my incident.
And to end this, I`m telling you that when I use ONLY my DSL modem to go online, I`m NOT getting any disconnects. And I`m not going to suspect my ISP yet, after 2 years of stable internet provided to me. I will call them after I know for sure that my router is working properly.
I should have also mentioned that before I noticed that I was getting disconnects, I have upgraded from firmware 1.04 to 1.05. I thought that 1.05 is just a bad firmware and I reflashed back to 1.04 version, but unfortunately I had encountered the same issue. I`m not 100% sure if this is the incident that triggered my issue, because I did n`t checked the logs for a stable connection right after the firmware update, but a couple of days after.
I purchased this router after reading many reviews and when I got it, it had the best throughput and it was dealing very well with large number of connections. D-link advertisements we`re saying similar things. And probably DIR655 still is the best for these things (in the consumer segment, of course).
Now I`m waiting for D-link to stand behind their products and help customers with their problems.
I hope now that you are happy, because I have justified myself in front of you. I also hope that you will stop treating me like a "cyber-thief" and start treating people who purchased your products, like customers.

I agree, it may be an issue with your ISP's PPPoe server. As ISP's become oversold, they can change the server parameters in order to free up IP addresses more frequently.

I don`t think so. When I access the router settings pages and downloading, they load a lot slower than usually. That means the router can`t handle the load. Something is definitely wrong.

I'm getting the same problem with Bell Canada here in Newfoundland. I'm not downloading anything "suspect" but I do have mIRC running 24/7 (I work for webmaster.com so I have no choice).
Either way, I called them up and after much complaining and explaining to them, they have supposedly found an issue with my line and are sending a technician out to "fix" it on Monday.
If they fix it I will let you know..
I was a little suspect at first as it only started happening when I upgraded the routers firmware to the latest (1.05) after noticing that D-Link finally allows blocking web sites (my kids know almost as much about computers as I do and hosts wasn't an option :P).
I'll keep you all posted anyway as personally I still have my suspicions re: 1.05 firmware.

Sure enough it was the 1.05 firmware.. I downgraded to 1.02 and it isn't happening any more.
I Hope D-link can do something about it.

My ISP called me and told me they "fixed" something on my line. This was after 1.02 was stable and 1.05 kept disconnecting so I thought why not give 1.05 a try again.
I've had 1.05 on for almost 24 hours now with no problems so whatever they fixed sorted out the problem.
I still think it's unusual that 1.05 kept flaking out and 1.02 didn't but I won't complain now that we finally have a web filter :P

I called them this morning too. They also told me that they "fixed" something for the line, but after that I was still getting disconnects. At noon I decided to remove the router and use only the DSL modem. Guess what. My connection did n`t dropped once since then (10 hours ago). So that`s it. It`s the router.

I flashed the router with firmware 1.02 and used it for 1 day. It is stable but the speed is low, so it`s unacceptable for me. Back to 1.03 now. I will wait for firmware 1.06. If it doesn`t solve my problem, I will have to switch to another brand/model router. I`m really tired of troubleshooting this...

The 1.06 firmware that you are referring to was a closed beta. It will not be available for download at any time. My questions to you are, A) is your modem properly bridged (e.g. passing a public ip to the routers WAN.
B) When you say you flashed back to 1.02 and it's slow, what do you mean? The LAN to LAN is slow, the WAN to LAN is slow? Please be descriptive so that was can assist you in your troubleshooting.

A) Yes it is.
B) Download speed is slow and under heavy load browsing is very very slow. And I`m talking about the wired connection. I didn`t even started to talk about my wireless problems yet. I will, but after the disconnection problem is going to be fixed.
I didn`t know that 1.06 was beta testing only, but it doesn`t matter. I will wait for the next firmware then. The number is not important. I only hope that it won`t take too long for them to release it.

Tried latest 1.10 firmware and it`s doing the same thing...
It`s hopeless..
