Title: suggestion: separate power supply
Post by: sejtam on June 21, 2012, 01:41:15 AM
While at first glance it makes sense that powerline units take their operating power from the plug they use as network link, this prohibits their use with a UPS. UPS systems commonly negatively influence the data so that one cannot plug the powerline into a UPS-fed power socket. The alternative is of course to plug the powerline modem into the mains, and the UPS after that, but then the powerline equipment will fail when power goes out. The solution would be to allow the powerline equipment to draw its operating power from one socket (fed form the UPS) while using a second (non-UPS fed) socket for the network.
