Title: connection specific DNS suffix... confused.

I use comcast for my ISP with a standard internet modem from them (not a router).  I have my DIR-655 connected that modem and a wan IP is provided via DHCP.  Why is it when I ping a specific host from one computer on my LAN to a another computer on my LAN does the ping respons with a different computer *.hsd1.il.comcast.net with a differnet IP?
