Title: (DSL-2750U) restrict access to usb storage

Hi, I have  DSL-2750U and I just setup the USB storage with an external HDD. I use a mac and I mounted the drive on my mac. I'm planning to use it for backup purpose but first of all I need to make sure that the other computers connect to the same router does not have access to the HDD. Is this possible ?

It's possible any one connected to the modem has access. I would review the user manual to see if the 2750 has options to restrict user access to the USB device.

For DSL 2750U router ( firmware version - IN_1.10 ) there is an option in router settings page under Advanced Setup->StorageService->UserAccounts to protect the usb storage with a user name and password.

Related links are here (http://goo.gl/jpwWdn) and here (http://goo.gl/roAoFm). Problem is, even if you configure, the usb storage is accessible with out any restrictions to all users at \\routerIp\u_disk\usb1_1. About the username/password configured, I was never able to access drive with it.

I contacted regional dlink support person(India) over chat. He appeared less knowledgeable than a layman. Will try getting L2 technician over phone. Also emailed gplcode at dlink dot com for source code of DSL 2750U router. No replies yet. I feel it is best to read the source instead of contacting all these technicians who appears to have no clue. Even worse is the manual (download here (http://goo.gl/W2JPFf)). If any thing is requires slightly complex configuration, manual will not mention it for sure.

FYI, there is no GPL code for this model modem.

Ok. That is why I was not able to see DSL 2750U at the gpl code download site.

D-Link along with this router modem(DSL 2750U) purchase, gave a pamplet, telling we can request for GPL code. Why did they gave it if no GPL code was there ? So the gpl option is also ruled out. I am almost sure L2 technician is not going to answer any of these.

Give L2 or higher a try and see...
