Title: DNS 320 works on Port 80 but no other.
Post by: SiriusB on July 17, 2012, 07:59:31 AM
Hi guys, I purchased a 320 sharecenter recently & more than happy with it.  setting it up was a breeze as well as acessing it from the Internet.

I've now hit a snag & have tested with various ports to no avail.  Is the 320 stuck to port 80?

Reason for asking is because of my setup: -

Running Win 7 with a D-Link DIR 655 router (have this for past few years - nice router btw) & understand port forwarding reasonably well.  However, when my Windows Home Server is running, it overides the sharecenter as it uses ports 80 & 443, so at the moment, if required external access to either, one of them has to be off.

No issues while on lan with both running.

Any advice would be appreciated as I would like both running & accessible externally.

You can always use any port number >1024 and do port-forwarding on the router to redirect HTTP traffic to the NAS.

Have tried that from several different external locations & still no joy.  Have also just finished another test by having a customer attempt to get to the log in page of the sharecenter.  Again no joy, so as a final test reverted to port 80 with WHS booted up - customer got log in page of server.  Shutdown server & customer got log in page of sharecenter.

Asides from setting sharecenter up in port forwarding in the router, is there something else I'm missing?

The NAS webUI listen to port 80 and 443, port redirection will work in most cases. There has been report that firmware 2.02 doesn't forward the port-no for HTTP protocol, secure HTTP work fine.

Thanks for the info.  However, that failed as well.  Current firmware on the shareceter is 2.02.  Could it be an issue with the firmware?

How do you go about accessing it via secure HTTP?

To clarify on my original post.

Using the DNS 320 without having servers booted up & on network, using http [port 80) & https(port 443) gets straight through to the sharecenter with no issues whatsoever.

As soon as my Windows Home Server is booted up, any attempt to access the sharecenter with default settings are directed to WHS .

So far, all attempts to redirect ports for the sharecenter are failing.  I'm using a D-Link DIR 655 router & using port forwarding.  By any chance, does the port forwarding for the dns 320 need to be set up through virtual server rather than port forwarding?

Is it worth attempting to use the latest beta firmware?
