I am not surprised by the announcement. It makes perfect business sense.
I am however a bit puzzled by "•Latest Firmware - Version 1.07"
Posted here: http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/support/product/dns-323-sharecenter-2-bay-network-storage-enclosure
Not a big deal but I assume it is a typo (?) since there are indeed linbks to 1.08, 1.09 and 1.10 on the same page. Most users here know 1.09 to be a stable release.
As I stated not a big deal since I've never called support and would do so only for a hardware issue/failure. But at the price point they sell at I've got my money's worth out of the 3 units I run 24/7 already. I don't see any reason why they won't run a few more years without issue.

These DNS models had a good run, but with newer models available decommission was inevitable. For what it's worth, the DNS-343 is also labeled as "Phased Out", but no dates specified.
Firmware v1.08, 1.09, and 1.10 are on the D-Link website. The firmware isn't listed in chronological order. You need to scroll down further on the page.

I realize that the other versions are available, thanks though. The link though indicates under "Quick Links" that v1.07 is the latest version for some reason. That was what I was curious about. It is irrelevant though as I am using v1.09.

I see what you're talking about now and will ask D-Link to update the website.
Thank you for pointing out that oversight.

My 323 has many small issues, but it still works. I'd like to upgrade to a newer box with similar capabilities, hopefully one that can take drivers larger than 2TB in mirrored mode. I wouldn't even mind having 4 drives. I've been using EXT3 file system and it is painfully slow. I don't get better transfer speeds than 7MB/Sec.
Any suggestions on a new box to migrate to? I have to admit, I don't understand some of the points of advertisement on newer boxes, D-Link or otherwise.
Suggestions on an upgrade, please!

If you are inclined to stay with D-Link, the successors to the DNS-323 are the DNS-320 and DNS-325. Both products support 3TB HDDs (after upgrading from the factory default firmware).
- DNS-320 - 800MHz processor, 128MB RAM
- DNS-325 - 1.2 GHz processor, 256MB RAM
Both products have a completely revamped web interface compared to the legacy DNS-321/323/343 firmware. You can test out the web interface via the following links:
- DNS-320 Emulator (http://support.dlink.com/emulators/dns320/200/login.html)
- DNS-325 Emulator (http://support.dlink.com/emulators/dns325/101/login.html)
D-Link is in the process of rolling out cloud-based services for these new ShareCenter lines. You can learn more through the D-Link USA website.

Will the dns-321/323 get 3tb support before the may phase-out date?
3tb has been state of the art for a while and well before the phase-out announcement.
Thanks.

I do not believe 3TB will be supported on the DNS-321/323/343.
