Title: Accressing the USB Port outside of the network
Post by: Viper5646 on August 22, 2012, 07:07:22 PM
Hi all
If possible I would like to have access to my external hard drive from outside of my network.
While in the network my laptop connects to the Hard Drive using the shareport. If I take the laptop with me then I would also have to take the External Drive with me.
If possible to connect to it with a password can you please direct me to set it up.
Thanks in advance

I use this frequently to access files on various PCs at home: teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com)

I Use  Teamviewer too.
Teamviewer  is useless if the pc's are off.
My External drive is connected to D-Link Dir825 router.

What region are you located?
SharePort is needed and gives the only access to the USB port on the router on the LAN side. I don't think it can be accessed from the WAN side. I might call DLink support and ask about this.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

If SP isn't supporting of remote WAN connections to the USB port then I would connect your USB drive to a PC that you can leave on or have turn on or wake when there is network activity.
